The dream of reaching the Americas was the impetus that seduced many Catalans to set out to cross the Atlantic from the 18th century -especially from 1778- and throughout the 19th century.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These adventurers saw in these Latin American countries the opportunity that their place of origin deprived them of, opting for emigration as the great opportunity to prosper and become rich. <\/strong><\/p>\n

For some it was not so: They were those who did not see their expectations fulfilled, falling into absolute misery and becoming dependent on the charity of their compatriots.<\/p>\n

The nature of Catalan migration during the 20th century responded to a greater extent to ideological and political motives.<\/p>\n
