On October 25, at 6:00 p.m., we invite you to attend the Archivists Without Borders session at the Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona that will discuss memory laws and truth commissions.
The event will consist of a dialogue between Sergio Gálvez Biesca, doctor in Contemporary History and head of the Central Archive Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, and César Eduardo Osorio Sánchez, doctor in Political and Social History from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and lawyer and master in Sociology from the National University of Colombia, and moderated by Ramon Alberch, former president of AsF Internacional. The new historical memory law approved by the Spanish Government has not left archivists and memory groups indifferent, who presented a series of allegations in the draft law, and yet it was approved without taking into account some of the important demands. On the other hand, we will also hear how in Colombia they have had to make a transition due to the armed conflict and how the victims’ law has been treated in the field of archives, between 2011 and 2012.
What role does the state play in these contexts? How much trust do state archives generate for the entry of truth commission documentation? Is it easy to access? Is there a lack of transparency? Is the establishment and recognition of a truth commission useful in all contexts? There are many questions that make us question actions in the field of memory and archives, so you are all invited.Mark your calendar, we look forward to seeing you!
