Project of the missing children of Uruguay during the military dictatorship (1973-1985)
Start Year: 2007 – End Year: 2011
During the military dictatorship that Uruguay experienced in the seventies and part of the eighties, many women were imprisoned in the country’s prisons linked to leftist movements, students or simply for being opponents of the political regime. Some of these women were pregnant and gave birth in prisons. The experience of having to live with babies and, later, having to be forcibly separated from them, marked the lives of these women and their children. From Arxivers sin Fronteres, the oral history project of this harsh reality is being carried out through interviews with the women who suffered this situation so that Uruguayan society does not forget this sad story. In this sense, it is expected that when all the interviews with the women who suffered this experience are completed, the stories of these political prisoners of Uruguay will also be published.
