Project for organizing the documentation of the Urban Commune of Fez
The difficulty in operating the administration itself due to the collapse of its archive led those responsible for the Urban Commune to request collaboration from Barcelona City Council and, in turn, the City Council requested it from Archivists Without Borders.
The project’s objectives include organizing historical documentation from the French protectorate period and also the administrative and management archive of the Urban Commune. The project consists of 3 phases during the period 2005-2007, with the organization of work camps for cooperation workers for technical support tasks in the basic treatment of documentation, the development of basic archive management instruments, the training of local technicians and the adaptation of documentation repositories. Likewise, in order to be able to manage this documentation, one of the purposes is to constitute a work team of archivists among the staff of the Urban Commune and provide them with specialized training in archival science so that they can continue the task of organizing documentation and take charge of the operation of the Archive of the Urban Commune of Fez (Morocco).
