Project for the organization, digitization and microfilming of the documentary collection produced by Bishop Pere Casaldàliga of the Archives of the Prelature of São Félix do Araguaia

Bishop Pere Casaldàliga led the Prelature of São Félix do Araguaia in the Mato Grosso region (Brazil) for more than 35 years of his pastoral life. His involvement in the fight for the most disadvantaged and the defense of the rights of people in the vast territory of the prelature led him to have many relationships with various personalities and politicians from various countries, especially from Latin America, as reflected in his documentation.

Archivists Without Borders has collaborated with this prelature in the preservation of the documentation by making digitized and microfilmed copies of the documentation generated by the bishop during his pastoral life. In this way, their conservation as a source of research for future generations will be ensured, given the special personality and significance of Bishop Pere Casaldàliga, a reference of the Church most committed to the poor and marginalized in the Mato Grosso region, as well as a defender of the current of Liberation Theology.

In 2006, a copy of the digitized and microfilmed documentation (a total of 208,268 images) was given to several public archives in Brazil and also to the National Archive of Catalonia.
