In recent years, Archivists Without Borders has tried to keep the Bulletin alive, always understood as one of the most important and original communication tools of the organization. Initially, the Bulletin was a document that was sent by post, then it became a document in PDF format that was sent to members via email and, finally, with the rise of social networks, it was seen that this Bulletin had to go much further with new approaches in terms of communication and dissemination. From 2014, the Bulletin presents the first major change, with a more modern and current format and begins to be disseminated through social networks, specifically through the ISSUU online service. From 2014 to 2019, thanks to this platform Archivists Without Borders was able to disseminate a total of six editions of the Bulletin. The last and final edition stands out, number 30, in which AsF put every effort into giving the Bulletin a new image, much more current and much closer to a specialized magazine.
Once we had analyzed the number of readers who submitted this new Bulletin, which was much more elaborate and involved many more hours of dedication, we at Archivists Without Borders decided to make one last change, the most radical: to convert the Bulletin into a digital newspaper. This last change was due to the fact that it did not compensate for the number of readers and the efforts made, because within the Bulletin itself there were sections that were much more popular than others and because we were just beginning a project to remodel the Archivists Without Borders website. With all this in mind, we decided to promote those sections that were most well received, such as the editorial, the articles or the interviews, and it was decided that the new website should include a digital newspaper where these articles could be posted periodically and, in addition, they could be disseminated in a much more effective way. Without a doubt, we can also thank other colleagues in the profession for this change who have shown us with their digital newspapers and their good work, as is the case with La Dada from the colleagues of the Association of Professionals of Archiving and Document Management of Catalonia or the digital magazine Archivoz, that this model works and is here to stay.
As we all know, the global pandemic of 2020 caught us all by surprise and brought the world to a standstill. Although it never stopped us completely, it did slow down all the projects we had underway and forced us to suddenly learn to work and communicate in a different way. With the arrival of the new AsF Board at the end of 2021 and with the long-awaited end of the pandemic, the projects have finally gotten the push they needed and many have been seeing the light of day in recent months. The new AsF website is now a reality and with it, now finally arrives the new Bulletin of Archivists Without Borders, converted into a digital newspaper that you will know on social networks under the name #AsFBlog.
The new #AsFBlog aims, therefore, to be a space where we can share articles of all kinds, articles that inform about the activities in which AsF participates or collaborates, more specialized articles, articles from the new archivist promotions based on work they have carried out during their studies at the University, interviews that can be a speaker for archival professionals from all over the world and editorials like this one, which will comment on topics of interest or, as in this case, great news that happens in the entity and that we cannot let go without explaining. From today, we invite you all to participate in this new space, to propose articles, concerns and situations that you want to spread. We welcome a new archival speaker!
