Organization of documentation of Catalan exile: the archive of the Casal Català de Costa Rica

The Casal Català de Costa Rica is a relatively modern entity founded in 1982, but previously there had been other entities that had the purpose of grouping the Catalan community present in the country and promoting the dissemination of Catalan culture. The original entity was born on January 15, 1914 under the name of Centre Català, but four and a half years later it was dissolved due to serious economic problems and became part of the Asociación Española de Beneficencia, Casa de España. Already in 1980, due to the celebration of a Meeting of Catalan Centers and Casals of America in Barcelona, a provisional Agrupació dels Catalans de Costa Rica was formed from Costa Rica, which would be the immediate predecessor of the current Casal Català.

In 2013, Arxivers sense Fronteres began a project to survey the preserved documentation of the Casal Català, both at the current headquarters of the entity and at its former headquarters, the Casa de España. The preserved documentation begins in 1955, with two books from the Jocs Florals in Costa Rica and has a volume of 10 linear meters on paper. A Classification Table was also prepared. In 2015, a new stay was made with the aim of properly installing the Casal Català archive.
